Mr. Robert Frans

Club president

My name is Robert Frans and for me it is a great honor to be the president of Kiwanis Club Curaçao for this Kiwanistic year 2008-2009. A roman emperor called Marcus Aurelius once said “why do we shrink from change? What can come into being except from change? As Kiwanians we need to resist the appeal of tradition, because we are in the business of change. Change for the better. One child and one community at the time. Great things will be coming from our club this Kiwansitic year. During the last Kiwanistic year our club experienced a renaissance and this was due to the dynamic and outstanding work of my predecessor and his board. The enthusiasm is high. I intend to keep it that way and enhance the membership experience of our members. Good things can become better. For this Kiwanistic year 2008-2009 I pledge to you that Kiwanis Club Curaçao will keep on going steadfast in the good direction, steady on the road of betterment and excellence. Not only in the service we give to our community but also in the quality of our members.
Every single Kiwanian is a leader and is or must be well aware of that.
A Kiwanian must be a worthy ambassador of his or her club and of Kiwanis in general.
Kiwanians, wear you pin with pride and market Kiwanis everywhere you go because marketing of the Kiwanis experience is certainly one of the focuses for this Kiwanistic year. The great Henry Ford, who apart from being a great businessman was a great visionary once, said “Think you can or think you can’t either way your right”.
Kiwanis has succeeded for so long because Kiwanians have always thought they can and they have been right. We build better communities and better lives through voluntary service. We CAN change the world one child and one community at the time.
This is the perfect time for you that cares and wants to make a difference to join the ranks of our club. Remember that persons are never honored for what they have received, honor has been the reward for what they gave………….

Let’s roll up the sleeves and work to make this a wonderful Kiwanistic year.

The tasks include:

  • Make certain all meetings are well planned and organized
  • Be concerned and accessible to all club members
  • Educate members
  • Communicate openly

  • Appointing and delegating — Take great care in the appointments you make and in delegating tasks.
  • Attending — As an ex-officio member of all committees, attend as many committee meetings
as possible (but let the chairmen run their meetings). Attend, and encourage others to attend,
the International convention and all division and district functions.
  • Budgeting — Make certain the budget is completed and approved by the board by October 1. Track it monthly. See that the books are audited externally or by internal appointees at the end of the administrative year.

  • Education — Club officers, board, and committee chairmen must clearly understand and carry out their responsibilities throughout the year.

  • Monitoring — Continuously monitor the club’s progress toward goal accomplishment and the activities/responsibilities of all officers and appointees.
  • Motivating — Establish a climate of enthusiasm, openness, and concern. Follow up, congratulate, and listen.
  • Presiding — Make certain that each club and board meeting is well planned and organized, flows smoothly, ends on time, and that each member has great fun and fellowship.
  • Problem Solving — Make it apparent that you are concerned and accessible. Seek input and explore alternatives before making important decisions.
  • Recruiting and Retaining — Make certain all members are active/involved. New membership is the lifeblood of the club and its level of service.
  • Have an aggressive, yearlong membership campaign with weekly/monthly goals to be
    achieved.
Make certain new members understand Kiwanis before induction and are actively
    involved immediately after induction.
  • Reporting — The club president bears ultimate responsibility for meeting the reporting requirements of the district and Kiwanis International. Most reports are sent to the club
secretary to be completed with the club president. See page 85 for a complete list of
    reports and due dates.
  • Succession — Prepare next year’s president for duties as the club’s chief executive.
Encourage him or her to attend the Club Leadership Education Session.
